Description
- The U.S. Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal was established in 1920 as incentive to recognize outstanding marksmanship. It is awarded to members of the Navy or Naval Reserve who qualify as Expert with their issue pistol firing a prescribed qualification course.
- The service ribbon of the Pistol Shot medal is awarded to Naval personnel who qualify marksman or sharpshooter. When awarded for marksman qualification only the ribbon is awarded. When awarded for sharpshooter qualification the ribbon is awarded with a Silver “S”. Those who qualify expert receive the medal and the accompanying service ribbon with a Silver “E”.
